Founder’s Story
Christie and Jay have called Iowa home for most of their lives, married for over two decades and blessed to raise their two young boys. They champion their boys to become resilient men who take ownership, have a joy for learning, and pursue their passions.
In 2022, they made some big life changes to better align with their family mission, “Develop Leaders and Family Independence Founded in Faith”. This allowed them to prioritize their boys and greatly simplify life. Homeschooling was a part of this change where they discovered their educational vision directly aligned with the Apogee model and have committed themselves to embracing Apogee’s pedagogy further.
Launching Apogee Liberty fuses their passion and family mission by committing themselves to serve families within their community to Learn. Lead. Win.

Coach Jay
Hi, I’m coach Jay. I have called Iowa home for most of my life where my wife and I raise our two young boys. I also serve in the Iowa Air National Guard, a great career that has cumulated the last two decades.
I would describe myself as a simple guy with high expectations, who prioritizes actions over words and enjoys the freedom to think and operate. I would sum up my coaching style as helping guide an individual to discover their answer in their own way.
I grew up in a small town with a family that valued hard work ethic, community, and always doing what was right. Reflecting on what "school" gave me, I came to the realization that "school" is not what I wanted for my boys.
I wanted something far more; more relevant, more intentional, more simplistic, and more enjoyable.
Being a parent is the best and most important job I will ever have. Leading my boys and others to greatness is, and has always been, something I personally take value in.
Coach Christie
Hi, I'm coach Christie. I grew up on a dairy goat farm in East Central Iowa. My professional life has been a blend of the passions and curiosity sparked from working alongside my parents.
I always admired my mom, who was a special education teacher. Her approach to create a joy of learning and encourage students to pursue greatness inside, inspired me to become an agriculture and science teacher after I graduated from college.
By far, my most meaningful roles are those of wife and mom.
Since 2019, I've grown passionate about leadership, especially embracing Extreme Ownership and striving each day to improve myself. I view every day as a gift from God, meant to be used to pursue our purpose by leading ourselves and encouraging one another to do the same.
